Their mutual love for nature brought together Susann Hanauer and Ralf Waßmann, and together they have found their forever home in the southernmost Hungarian wine region. Ralf, originally from West Germany, has always been interested in fermentation and experimenting with fruit-based drinks. He went on to study winemaking and beverage technology in Geisenheim. He met Susan (at the time fresh out of law school) on a trip to the Alps, and their love for nature´s beauty brought them closer together. They traveled Europe and fell in love with the Villány wine region and in 1998 they decided to buy a 2 hectare estate with a tiny house. Four years later they founded Wassmann Wine Estate with nature, minimal intervention and the highest possible quality in mind.
In 2006 they were the first people to make biodynamic wine in South Hungary, and they have been working with Demeter values since 2011. They believe that there are many pros of gentle, low intervention winemaking, however they could not think of one argument against.
