The Somlói Vándor (Somló Wanderer), aka Tamás Kis, born in Budapest, was drawn to wines through working in hospitality and attending tastings. After finishing his diploma, he took a job at Eger with the St. Andrea winery. In 2010, he purchased a small parcel at Somló-hill. He started his long commutes, working in Eger and attending to his project.
Tamás released his first wine in 2011, and within the next 4 years, he grew the estate to 5.5 hectares. He believes that Somló’s soil structure has an incredible grape-growing potential and can produce incredible results (depending on which side of the hill the grapes where grown on). Tomi harvests grapes from all 4 sides of the hill (from 11 different parcels), and ferments them together as he believes that it gives complexity to his wines. He farms organically, and aims to use very little new oak or anything else that would change the expressiveness of the wines. In 2016, his cuvee was part of the Hidden Treasures project initiated by Roland Velich.
