Eva Cartwright spent her childhood next to the iconic witness mountain and wine region, Somló Hill. She went on to become a successful expert in custom logistics, and through a series of random, but meaningful events, she was guided back to her home on the hill. In 2012, she opened her shop (right next to the main hike path) to friends and guests, and lovers of excellent wines.
Somlo Wine Shop is a meeting point, a place where people can talk and exchange ideas, a connector between winemakers and admirers of wines. Over the years, the shop helped the infamously closed winemaker community of Somlo become a little more open and accepting. Eva is almost single handedly responsible for making the hill and its wines famous world wide (she is the “ambassador” of volcanic wines, after all) and she keeps working on creating events, and get together to further advance the community. She created the Somlo by Night wine cellar tour, where wineries on the hill open their door to the public, show off their special vintages, as well as other exciting activities. Eva also created the hashtag #govolcanic, which embodies a larger project to further advance Somlo and volcanic wines.
The shop has Hungary’s (and probably the world’s) biggest selection of volcanic and Somló wines. For those who do not want to leave this magic hill, there is a guest-house available above the shop.

We may not have large quantities of wine on the hill, but what we have is remarkable. We just have to go strong, because Somlo is absolute magic. (Éva Cartwright)
