Locals in Vendvidék (or Rába-vidék, located at the Slovenian-Hungarian-Austrian border) are determined to keep traditions alive. The strong community and the physical-geographical isolation allowed the area’s folk tradition to thrive. The goal of the Slovenska Vzorčna Kmetija is to show that it is possible to farm effectively with nature and sustainability in mind.
The farm started as a community building initiative in 2015 and it was made whole, and famous by it’s gastronomy atelier, run by Csaba Steffel. The 22-hectare-estate provides everything a good kitchen can possibly need – fruit trees, vegetables, herbs, cows and other animals. They also have their own production facility for fruit juices and slaughterhouse, that is open to all other farmers in the area. The restaurant only works with products from the farm and the area, and their goal is the preserve the beautiful recipes and traditions this wonderful countryside has to offer.
