The Zala wine region was made significant by László Bussay, MD, who was often surprised by his local patients and their gifts of home-made “wines”. They say don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, but the doctor had a different idea in mind about good wine, so he started farming grapes and make wines to his taste.
He founded the Bussay Winery in Csörnyeföld in 1989 and his legacy as well as his praxis are carried on by his daughter, Dorottya. Her approach is very similar to her father’s (“I was just assisting, like a good dula, and the wine was just born, spontaneously, as it was intended.”), good quality grapes with minimal intervention to create beautiful, expressive wines.
