Bencze Family Estate was founded by István Bencze in 2012. Before turning his attention to wines, he was working in IT, and found his life lacking creativity and challenge. He soon found it on Szent György-hill, in a few rows of vine.
Today, the estate is almost 20 hectares and focuses on autochton Hungarian grapes (Bakator, Hárslevelű, Furmint) as well as Pinot Noir and Riesling. István’s approach to farming has always been as gentle as possible, and from 2014, the winery has been working under the Demeter Biodynamic guidelines. The soil (clay, brown forest soil, volcanic bazalt, and loess) allows the grapes to truly thrive and the estate’s is trying to preserve these gentle notes with the usage of various vessels in winemaking (clay eggs, amphoras, and high quality barrels).
István’s approach includes creating wines with the least amount of intervention, and his future plan is to turn the estate into a beautiful biodynamic farm.

We are trying to experiment every year, we have so many different inspirations, and creative thoughts. This is what keeps us alive, the road, the ideas, the excitement to find the purest possible form to represent the grapes, and the beautiful nature that surrounds us. (István Bencze)
